The US reduces waiting time for student visas and other category visas.

The US Embassy in India prioritizes student visa applications and reduces wait times for other visa categories. US Ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti, highlighted the United States' commitment to increase the speed of the student visa process in India. This reflects a wide strategy to strengthen people-to-people ties, recognizing their importance in promoting long-lasting relationships between the two nations. Garcetti also noted that US President Joe Biden directed him to reduce wait times for Indian visas by giving them high priority. "It's the first time, I think, in American history that a President has told an ambassador to get those visa waiting times down," Garcetti remarked.

The United States remains the top choice for Indian students.

The US Mission is working hard to ensure that more Indian students can pursue education in the US, predicting an increase in student visa applications this year. The US Embassy in India issued over 140,000 student visas in 2022, more than any other country. This number is expected to increase in 2024 as more Indian students seek academic opportunities in the US. Beyond student visas, Garcetti highlighted the broader impact of people-to-people connections, saying, "These are bonds that last a lifetime."

The US is focused on student visas and aims to reduce wait times for other visa applications. The Ambassador noted the wait time for tourist visas has also been reduced by 75%, with an average wait time below 250 days. This reduction is part of an ongoing effort to strengthen connections between the US and India and improve the visa application process.
